College Prep/AP Language

AP Language is created by The College Board who then trains/certifies teachers to teach them. This is college level course and is very difficult and involved. Teaching it takes a great deal of work. Our teacher has taught AP language, which is the AP class that is taught to 11th graders who qualify. The teacher is certified to teach AP Language..

The Course description for AP language(for 11th graders Level) is:

Focusing on a study of American literature, the student develops an understanding of chronological context and the relevance of period structures in American literature.

The student develops an understanding of the ways the period of a work of literature affects its structure and how the chronology of a work of literature affects its meaning.

The AP course in English Language and Composition engages students in becoming skilled readers of prose written in a variety of rhetorical contexts, and in becoming skilled writers who compose for a variety of purposes.

Both their writing and their reading should make students aware of the interactions among a writer’s purposes, audience expectations, and subjects as well as the way generic conventions and the resources of language contribute to effectiveness in writing.
